Decorating for the Holidays is a wonderful bonding tradition! However, any activity that involves getting on your roof could use some tips from the roofing professionals to ensure the best safety for you and your roof. We’ve put some tips together just for that purpose. Enjoy!

Avoid staples

Not everyone knows that it’s best to avoid staples when placing decorations on your roof! Staples can damage your roof and siding and lead to needing costly repairs down the line. Additionally, you will significantly increase your risk of injuring yourself when using staples.

Instead, consider using Christmas light clips.

Use lightweight decorations

That elaborate display involving Santa’s sleigh or a nativity scene might seem beautiful, but always make sure that you don’t overload your roof with too much weight. Not all homes are built to sustain the weight of heavy Christmas decorations for sustained periods. Weighty decorations might cause roof damage!

Ladder safety

Even if you think you’ve got it all handed, don’t climb a ladder alone. Place your ladder in a safe and stable location, and make sure someone is with you to hand you decorations!

Clear gutters

If you have Christmas decorations on your roof, bulbs close to dried-out leaves can be an extremely dangerous fire hazard. Remember to clear out your gutters and make sure you and your family are out of harm’s way before you conclude your Christmas decorating routine!

As always, if you have any questions or worries about the safety of your roof, we at Haynes Construction are always here to help out. Contact us today to chat or schedule a free roof inspection!
